Face/neck botulinum toxin

Botulinum toxin injections that temporarily relax the muscles of expression.

Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces nerve signals to the muscles where it is injected. It is used for expression lines on the forehead, between the brows, around the eyes and on the neck. The effect starts within a few days and usually lasts a few months.

How is it performed?

The muscles causing expression lines are identified at the consultation and the injection points are marked. Botulinum toxin is injected into these muscles in small doses with very fine needles. The forehead, the area between the brows, the corners of the eyes and the neck bands are the most commonly treated areas.

Who is it suitable for?

  • Adults with visible expression lines
  • Those who are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Those without neuromuscular disease

Consultation and preparation

  • An examination takes place before treatment, and your expectations, medical history and any previous treatments are discussed.
  • Blood thinners, aspirin or certain supplements can increase the risk of bruising; please be sure to mention them.
  • Treatment may be postponed if there is active acne, a cold sore or infection in the area.
  • It is advisable to schedule treatment a few weeks before an important event rather than in the days just before.

Recovery

Daily life can be resumed immediately. For the first few hours, massaging the area and bending forward should be avoided.

Aftercare advice

  • Do not massage or press on the treated area on the first day.
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas, steam baths and excessive heat for the first 24–48 hours.
  • Cold compresses can be used for mild swelling or bruising.
  • If you notice increasing pain, blanching or discolouration in the treated area, contact us without delay.

Possible risks and complications

  • Bruising and swelling at the injection site
  • Temporary headache
  • Temporary effects from spread to neighbouring muscles
  • Asymmetry
