How is it performed?
Rhinoplasty can be performed with an open or closed technique. In the open technique a small incision is made in the tissue between the nostrils; in the closed technique all incisions remain inside the nose. Bone and cartilage are reshaped according to the plan, and a deviated septum can be corrected in the same session if needed. At the end of the procedure the nose is supported with a splint.
Who is it suitable for?
- People whose nasal growth is complete
- Those seeking help with nasal shape or breathing problems
- Those whose general health is suitable for surgery
Consultation and preparation
- At the first consultation, your expectations, medical history and current medications are discussed in detail.
- Blood tests and any other necessary examinations are carried out before surgery, and an anaesthetist's assessment is obtained.
- Blood thinners, certain herbal products and supplements may need to be stopped for a period beforehand on the physician's advice.
- Smoking impairs wound healing; a break of at least several weeks before and after surgery is recommended.
- Fasting times and your arrival time at the hospital are given to you in advance.
Recovery
The splint is usually removed after one week. Swelling can take several months to resolve completely.
