How is it performed?
If necessary, the area of heaviest sweating is identified with a starch–iodine test. Botulinum toxin is then applied into the skin of this area with numerous small injections in a grid pattern. The toxin temporarily reduces the nerve signals that stimulate the sweat glands.
Who is it suitable for?
- People with excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)
- Those who are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Those without an active infection at the treatment site
Consultation and preparation
- An examination takes place before treatment, and your expectations, medical history and any previous treatments are discussed.
- Blood thinners, aspirin or certain supplements can increase the risk of bruising; please be sure to mention them.
- Treatment may be postponed if there is active acne, a cold sore or infection in the area.
- It is advisable to schedule treatment a few weeks before an important event rather than in the days just before.
Recovery
Daily life can be resumed immediately. The effect starts within a few days to two weeks.
Aftercare advice
- Do not massage or press on the treated area on the first day.
- Avoid intense exercise, saunas, steam baths and excessive heat for the first 24–48 hours.
- Cold compresses can be used for mild swelling or bruising.
- If you notice increasing pain, blanching or discolouration in the treated area, contact us without delay.
Possible risks and complications
- Bruising and swelling at the injection site
- Mild pain during treatment
- Temporary increase in sweating elsewhere
Frequently asked questions
Will sweating shift to other areas?
Underarm sweating accounts for a small part of the body's total sweating capacity, so significant compensatory sweating is not usually expected.
When does it start working and how long does it last?
The effect usually begins within 3–5 days and becomes clear after about two weeks. Duration varies from person to person; a review is usually planned after a few months.
Who performs the treatment?
All treatments are performed by Op. Dr. Emre Özbey following an examination and assessment.
Can I return to work after treatment?
After most injectable treatments you can return to daily life and work the same day. Mild swelling or bruising may occur, so plan accordingly.
