Cheek/malar filler

Restoring lost volume in the cheeks with filler.

Cheek filler places hyaluronic acid filler over the cheekbone and in the cheek to restore lost volume. By supporting the midface, it can also indirectly affect the under-eye and nasolabial areas.

How is it performed?

Volume loss over the cheekbones and the points where the face catches the light are assessed. A dense hyaluronic acid filler is placed on the bone or into the deep fat layer with a needle or cannula. Support in the midface can also indirectly affect the appearance of the under-eye and nasolabial areas.

Who is it suitable for?

  • People with loss of volume in the cheeks
  • Those who are not pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Those without an active infection at the treatment site

Consultation and preparation

  • An examination takes place before treatment, and your expectations, medical history and any previous treatments are discussed.
  • Blood thinners, aspirin or certain supplements can increase the risk of bruising; please be sure to mention them.
  • Treatment may be postponed if there is active acne, a cold sore or infection in the area.
  • It is advisable to schedule treatment a few weeks before an important event rather than in the days just before.

Recovery

Daily life can be resumed immediately. Mild swelling may last a few days.

Aftercare advice

  • Do not massage or press on the treated area on the first day.
  • Avoid intense exercise, saunas, steam baths and excessive heat for the first 24–48 hours.
  • Cold compresses can be used for mild swelling or bruising.
  • If you notice increasing pain, blanching or discolouration in the treated area, contact us without delay.

Possible risks and complications

  • Bruising and swelling at the injection site
  • Nodules or irregularities
  • Asymmetry
  • Vascular occlusion (rare)
  • Allergic reaction

Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase if necessary.

Who performs the treatment?

All treatments are performed by Op. Dr. Emre Özbey following an examination and assessment.
