How is it performed?
The area of heaviest sweating on the palms or soles is identified. Before treatment, numbing cream, cooling or a nerve block may be used to reduce discomfort. Botulinum toxin is then applied into the skin with numerous small injections so that it is evenly distributed.
Who is it suitable for?
- People with excessive sweating of the hands or feet
- Those who are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- Those without an active infection at the treatment site
Consultation and preparation
- An examination takes place before treatment, and your expectations, medical history and any previous treatments are discussed.
- Blood thinners, aspirin or certain supplements can increase the risk of bruising; please be sure to mention them.
- Treatment may be postponed if there is active acne, a cold sore or infection in the area.
- It is advisable to schedule treatment a few weeks before an important event rather than in the days just before.
Recovery
Daily life can be resumed immediately. The palms may be slightly tender for a few days.
Aftercare advice
- Do not massage or press on the treated area on the first day.
- Avoid intense exercise, saunas, steam baths and excessive heat for the first 24–48 hours.
- Cold compresses can be used for mild swelling or bruising.
- If you notice increasing pain, blanching or discolouration in the treated area, contact us without delay.
Possible risks and complications
- Bruising and swelling at the injection site
- Temporary weakness of grip
- Pain during treatment
Frequently asked questions
Does it affect hand strength?
Rarely, temporary weakness in fine hand movements lasting a few weeks may occur. The injection depth is planned to minimise this risk.
When does it start working and how long does it last?
The effect usually begins within 3–5 days and becomes clear after about two weeks. Duration varies from person to person; a review is usually planned after a few months.
Who performs the treatment?
All treatments are performed by Op. Dr. Emre Özbey following an examination and assessment.
Can I return to work after treatment?
After most injectable treatments you can return to daily life and work the same day. Mild swelling or bruising may occur, so plan accordingly.
