How is it performed?
Small crescent-shaped pieces of tissue are removed just inside the natural crease where the nostril meets the face, or at the base of the nostril. The amount of tissue to be removed is measured separately on each side, and the incisions are closed with fine stitches.
Who is it suitable for?
- People with a wide nasal base or prominent nostrils
- People whose facial growth is complete
- Those whose general health is suitable for surgery

- Blood tests and any other necessary examinations are carried out before surgery, and an anaesthetist's assessment is obtained.
- Blood thinners, certain herbal products and supplements may need to be stopped for a period beforehand on the physician's advice.
- Smoking impairs wound healing; a break of at least several weeks before and after surgery is recommended.
- Fasting times and your arrival time at the hospital are given to you in advance.

Frequently asked questions
Can alar base reduction be done on its own?
Yes, it can be done on its own under local anaesthesia. If changes to other parts of the nose are planned, it may be preferable to combine it with rhinoplasty.
Will there be a scar?
Because the incisions are placed in the natural crease of the nostril, the scar usually becomes less noticeable over time.
Where is the surgery performed?
Operations are performed in licensed hospitals in Istanbul, primarily Liv Hospital Topkapı, with an anaesthetist present.
I am travelling from abroad. How long should I stay in Istanbul?
This depends on the type of surgery and your recovery. After the preliminary assessment, the recommended length of stay is given to you in writing.
